THE UM CAIÇARA EM CHAMONIX PROJECT
The Um Caiçara em Chamonix project was created with a clear purpose: to discover and support sporting talent within the caiçara communities of Paraty, transforming lives through sport. Inspired by the collaboration between the Paraty Brazil by UTMB organization and the local community during trail preparation, the project aims to be a catalyst for future trail running champions who, without the right support, might never have had the opportunity to shine.
A caiçara is a traditional inhabitant of the coastal regions of southeastern Brazil, particularly the coastal communities of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, who preserves a rich culture connected to fishing, agriculture, and the environment.
How does it work?
Every year, six caiçaras — three men and three women — are selected to participate in Paraty Brazil by UTMB, receiving full support throughout their sporting journey. This includes training, equipment, and technical support, providing them with the ideal conditions to perform at their best in the races.
The project's main highlight is the unique opportunity for the best-performing caiçara: a direct spot in the UTMB Mont-Blanc Finals, with all expenses paid.
IMPACT AND ACHIEVEMENTS
Since its creation, Um Caiçara em Chamonix has already discovered incredible athletes. In 2023, Adenilson Ribeiro stood out and represented Paraty in Chamonix. In 2024, the winners were Valdecir and Geisa, the first athletes to unexpectedly secure this opportunity, with the top-performing man and woman earning the chance to race in the mountains of the Alps.
The project reinforces the belief that sport can transform lives, giving young caiçaras the opportunity to pursue their dreams, overcome challenges, and take the name of Paraty to the global trail running stage.

WHY BE PART OF IT?
Um Caiçara em Chamonix is not just about competing; it is about inspiring. The project aims to create role models for the entire community, showing that with dedication and support, sport can open doors that once seemed impossible. Every year, new talents emerge and new stories of overcoming challenges are written.
Through this project, Paraty and its caiçaras show Brazil and the world that the spirit of trail running goes far beyond the trails – it lives in every life that is touched, transformed, and taken to new heights.
