REGULATIONS EDITION 2025
All the information you need to participate in Paraty Brazil by UTMB. Please read the Regulations and the attachments carefully, where you will find all the answers to your possible questions.
To participate in the Paraty Brazil by UTMB event, especially for the UTSB 110 and PTR 55 courses, it is essential to:
- Be fully aware of the length and specifics of the race and to be perfectly prepared for it.
- Have acquired, before the race, a real capacity for personal autonomy in the mountains to handle the challenges that come with this type of race, including but not limited to:
- Knowing how to face, without external help, very difficult weather conditions due to altitude (night, wind, cold, fog, or rain).
- Being able to manage, even when isolated, physical or mental issues resulting from extreme fatigue, digestive problems, muscle or joint pain, and minor injuries.
- Be fully aware that the organization’s role is not to help a runner manage their problems.
- Be fully aware that for such activity in the mountains, safety primarily depends on the runner's ability to adapt to encountered or foreseeable problems.
- Inform and educate their companions about respecting the places, people, and the race regulations.
Participants are expected to demonstrate the principles of semi-autonomy/self-sufficiency. They must be prepared to carry their own liquids, food, and equipment (including items for adverse weather conditions) between the aid stations. Participants must also be capable of handling adverse or changing conditions within the safety guidelines of the course. This principle of self-sufficiency implies the following rules:
Each runner must have all their mandatory equipment with them throughout the race. They must carry this equipment in a non-transferable backpack along the course. At any time during the race, the race staff may check the backpack and its contents. The runner is required to submit to these checks courteously, under penalty of disqualification from the race.
The aid stations provide drinks and food for consumption on-site. The organization supplies only water or sports drinks to fill water reservoirs. The runner must ensure that they have the necessary amount of drinks and food to reach the next aid station at the start of each station.
For the UTSB 110, personal assistance is permitted exclusively at certain aid stations, in an area specifically reserved for this purpose and at the discretion of the aid station coordinator. This assistance may only be provided by one person. Medical assistance from a member of the runner's team is strictly prohibited. Only minimal care is allowed, such as massages and treatment of blisters, provided that the runner remains seated in a chair and is not lying down. The remainder of the aid station is strictly reserved for runners.
It is prohibited to accompany or be accompanied along any part of the race course by an unauthorized person, except in areas clearly marked for spectators near the aid stations. A participant who accepts to be accompanied outside designated areas violates the principle of semi-autonomy. Race staff or coordinators witnessing this violation have the authority to penalize the participant to enforce the rules.
(*) External support for runners is allowed at the following UTSB 110 checkpoints:
- Taquari (33.6 km)
- Trutaria Rio Manso (76.6 km)
External assistance is prohibited at all other checkpoints, as well as at any other point along the race course.
For the PTR 55, PTR 35, PTR 20, and FUN 7 courses: no assistance is permitted at any time during the race.
To ensure the safety of all participants, it is strongly recommended that each athlete carry all items listed on the mandatory equipment checklist available on the event website (https://paraty.utmb.world/pt/races-runners/runners/mandatory), specific to each course. It is essential to carry all equipment throughout the race, even if it is not in use.
Equipment checks will be conducted in an organized and/or random manner throughout the race. Penalties or disqualifications may be applied to runners who are not carrying all mandatory equipment, as detailed in the penalties section.
The items on the mandatory checklist include basic equipment necessary to face adverse weather conditions in the mountains or on the course terrain, such as cold, wind, and heavy rain. All clothing items must be appropriately sized and should not be altered after manufacture. The equipment must be carried in a race backpack, labeled during check-in, and should not be swapped during the race.
To reduce plastic waste, no disposable utensils will be distributed at any aid station or support area. Athletes are encouraged to bring their own reusable utensils (BYOU) for hot meals at the aid stations.
If runners choose to use trekking poles, they must carry them throughout the race. Picking up or leaving poles along the course is not permitted. Additionally, listening to music with headphones is allowed as long as it is safe, and headphones must be removed when crossing roads, passing through checkpoints, and interacting with the safety team.
Bib numbers will be issued to each runner upon presentation of a valid photo ID.
The bib number must be worn on the front at all times and must remain completely visible throughout the race. It should always be placed over all clothing. The runner's name and partner logos must not be altered or obscured. The bib number serves as a pass to access rescue transport, checkpoints, medical stations, bathrooms, showers, and the drop bag delivery and collection areas.
The bib number will only be removed if the runner refuses to comply with the instructions of the race director. If the runner withdraws from the race, the bib number will be marked and deactivated.
Upon picking up the race kit, each participant will receive two bags (Dropbags). After filling the bag with their preferred items and sealing it, the runner can leave it next to the Kit Collection area inside the Expo. The athlete will have access to the bags at the following checkpoints:
- Taquari (33.6 km)
- Trutaria Rio Manso (76.6 km)
Only bags provided by the organization or the UTMB World Series bag will be transported. Poles are not permitted in these bags. Since the items in the bags are not checked or monitored, the race organizer is not responsible for the contents within them. It is advisable not to place valuable items in the bags.
How to retrieve the Dropbags at the finish area?
The bags will be returned to the runner or to a family member or friend only upon presentation of the bib number. The bags must be retrieved by Sunday (September 21) at 12 PM at the latest. Bags not picked up by this time will be donated or discarded by the organization.
The organization guarantees the return transport of bags belonging to runners who have withdrawn, provided that the withdrawal has been recorded. The timeframe for return transport will depend on logistical restrictions, and the organization cannot guarantee the complete return of the bags before the end of the race. Since the contents of the bags are not verified, no claims regarding the contents upon arrival will be accepted. It is advisable not to place valuable items in them.
The location for the delivery/collection of the bags will be the same as where they were delivered.
By registering for a UTMB event, participants commit to respecting the environment and the natural spaces they traverse. In particular:
It is strictly prohibited to leave litter (gel wrappers, papers, organic waste, plastic packaging, etc.) along the course. Trash bins are available at each aid station and must be used. Race staff will conduct random checks along the routes.
All participants must keep their trash and packaging until they can dispose of them in the bins available at the aid stations. The organization encourages runners to bring a trash bag to transport their waste to the next aid station. Plastic bags for dirty papers will be provided with the bib number and must be used in urgent situations near the trails.
It is imperative to follow the marked paths without cutting corners.
No disposable utensils (cutlery, cups, bowls) will be distributed at the support bases and aid stations. This measure aims to reduce plastic consumption by runners. Therefore, we invite you to bring your own utensils if you want hot meals at the aid stations.
Along the race course, there are points where runners receive food and drink. The aid stations provide drinks and food for on-site consumption. The organization supplies still water or electrolyte/sports drinks for filling water bottles and hydration packs, as well as mandatory individual cups. For consuming food that requires a container, each runner must carry their own container. The runner must ensure that, upon leaving the aid station, they have the necessary amount of food and drinks to last until the next aid station.
Only runners with a visible and properly controlled bib number have access to the aid stations, as well as the allowed support for the UTSB 110 at the predetermined locations.
Our website provides a complete list of the aid stations and the types of food/drink that runners can find there.
There will be passage checkpoints at some of the aid stations. Random checks may also occur at undisclosed locations by the organization. Runners may be asked to show their mandatory equipment at some of the aid stations and at certain safety points along the course.
Unexpected checkpoints will be set up along the route. Their locations will not be disclosed.
The course markings are made with ribbons featuring the event logo, arrow signs, and reflective materials that reflect the runner's flashlight, making them easily visible at night.
WARNING: If you cannot see any course markings, turn back!
Participants in all distances must present a medical certificate stamped and signed by a doctor, with the professional council number (CRM), issued up to 12 months before the event date, certifying that the athlete is medically fit to participate. The certificate must be submitted through the UTMB account, in the athlete's dashboard, by August 31, 2025.
There are several medical aid points along the course. These stations are directly linked to the command center and are intended to assist any runner who requires medical help.
It is the responsibility of any runner in need of assistance or who is injured to call for help by:
- Going to a medical station
- Calling the command center (the phone number should be saved on their mobile)
- Asking another runner to request help
- Using the SOS function in the LiveTrail app
Runners must assist anyone in danger and alert the command center. If a runner is unable to call the command center and the situation is an absolute emergency, they can call one of the national emergency services directly (especially if they are in an area where only emergency calls are possible): 193.
Several unexpected events, including adverse weather conditions, may cause you to wait for help longer than expected. Therefore, your safety depends on the quality of the items you packed in your backpack.
All medical personnel, paramedics, first aid staff, and guides, as well as anyone designated by the race management, are authorized to:
- Remove any participant deemed unable to continue the event
- Require any competitor to use mandatory equipment
- Evacuate all runners considered to be in danger
- Direct runners to the most appropriate medical center
A runner who is treated by a doctor or reached by the search and rescue team must submit to the authority of the professional and agree to accept their decisions. If the runner's health condition justifies intravenous treatment, they must withdraw from the race.
There is a medical center in Paraty available for runners with serious medical issues. Comfort care is based on the medical team's decision, within the limits of available care.
Runners must remain on the marked path, even if they choose to sleep. All runners who voluntarily venture off the marked course or outside the allowed time limit will no longer be under the organization's responsibility.
The time limits for completing each of the races are:
- UTSB 110: 30h
- PTR 55: 16h
- PTR 35: 9h
- PTR 20: 6h
- FUN 7: 2h
You can check the cut-off times for leaving the main aid stations on the event website and in the Athlete's Guide. In case of changes (see Exceptional Conditions), the new cut-off times will be communicated in the briefing or via SMS/text message.
When the start is organized in multiple waves, the maximum allowed time and cut-off limits are calculated based on the start time of the runners in the LAST wave.
The time limits are calculated to allow participants to reach the finish within the time frame, including any stops (rest, meals, etc.). To be authorized to continue in a race, all participants must leave the checkpoint/aid station before the cut-off time (regardless of their arrival time at the checkpoint).
All participants who withdraw from the race and wish to continue on the course may do so only after returning their bib number. Runners who withdraw from the race will be responsible for themselves and will no longer receive support from the organizer. It is highly recommended that any withdrawing runner be transported back to the finish line by the transport provided by the organization.
Except in the case of injury, a runner wishing to withdraw from the race must do so only at a checkpoint. They must inform the person in charge of the checkpoint or communicate their withdrawal through the LiveTrail app and notify the command center.
If a runner opts to withdraw while on the course between two checkpoints, they must reach the nearest checkpoint and report their withdrawal.
Runners who withdraw must keep their bib number, as it serves as a pass to access transport, meals, treatment rooms, etc.
The repatriation works as follows:
- Transport is available at some aid stations to take back to Paraty runners who have withdrawn. These locations are published in the Runner's Guide. Transport will not be immediate and may involve some waiting time.
- Runners who abandon at any checkpoint where transport is not available, but whose health does not require evacuation, must return as quickly as possible, using their own means, to the nearest repatriation point.
- Regarding aid stations or safety points accessible by car or 4x4:
- After the closing of the aid station or safety points, the organization may repatriate runners who have withdrawn and have not yet left the aid station.
- In case of adverse weather conditions that justify a partial or total stoppage of the race, the organization will arrange transport for all runners as quickly as possible.
No athlete may start later than 10 minutes after the official start time of the race for any of the distances.
Upon finishing the race, the runner will receive a finisher medal. Finishers will have access to an aid station located in the historic center of Paraty, with access restricted exclusively to runners.
The organization of the race is part of the #jogolimpo program by ABCD – Brazilian Authority for Doping Control. Any athlete registered for the race is subject to anti-doping control, which may be conducted randomly across all distances, either before or after the race. An athlete who refuses to participate in an anti-doping test will be disqualified.
The list of prohibited substances and procedures is published on the ABCD website, which follows the studies of AMA-WADA. Click here to access.
For each race, there is an overall classification – male and female – and a classification by age category – also male and female – (see below for more details on each category).
- The top five male and female finishers in the overall classification receive trophies and cash prizes (payment will be made within 60 days after the event).
- The first place male and female in each category also receive trophies.
The results of all participants will be available at https://paraty.utmb.world/pt.

Liability Insurance
The organizer holds liability insurance during the event. This insurance covers the financial consequences of the organizer's responsibility, their employees, and the participants.
Personal Accident Insurance for Runners
It is strongly recommended that each athlete have personal accident insurance that covers search and evacuation expenses. This insurance is important to ensure the safety and well-being of participants in case of incidents during the competition. The choice of insurance company is up to the athlete, and it is essential to verify that the contracted insurance covers all possible emergency situations.
The choice of the means of evacuation and the location of hospitalization is the sole decision of the organization. Expenses resulting from the use of exceptional rescue or evacuation means will be the responsibility of the rescued individual, who must also arrange their own return from the location where they were evacuated. It is the sole responsibility of the runner to submit a claim to their personal insurer within the established timeframe.
Runners who have sponsors or use a third-party brand for promotional purposes may only display that third-party brand on their clothing and equipment during the competition. It is not permitted to use, transport, or display other items, including but not limited to flags, banners, or signs, along the race course, including the finish line. Failure to comply with this provision may result in a penalty determined at the discretion of the respective race directors.
In accordance with our ethical charter, any ostentatious display of political images or messages during the event is prohibited.
In an ongoing effort to increase and encourage women's participation in trail running, UTMB has implemented a new pregnancy policy across all UTMB World Series races.
The policy is eligible for:
- Athletes who are pregnant
- Athletes with a pregnant partner
- Athletes adopting or birthing via surrogacy
We offer a full refund or a deferred entry, valid for up to 2 years, for pregnant women, partners, and parents adopting or birthing via surrogacy.
Terms and Conditions: For events that require a valid UTMB Index, athletes must ensure their index is valid at the time they choose to participate in the race. Find more information on this site: https://utmb.world/inclusion
Any complaint regarding the classifications must be presented to a representative of the organization as soon as possible after the runner's arrival and confirmed by email within 2 days after the end of the event. Any other type of complaint must be submitted to the organization via email within 10 days after the end of the event.
