At Paraty Brazil By UTMB, we believe that nature is the true protagonist of our race. Every trail, every mountain, and every river that our runners cross are part of an ecosystem that we have a duty to protect. Our commitment goes beyond providing a unique experience for athletes; we aim to ensure that this natural beauty is preserved for future generations.
Our environmental mission is based on sustainable practices that minimize the event's impact and promote ecological awareness. We implement actions focused on waste management, trail preservation, and environmental education, always with the goal of harmonizing the event with respect and care for the environment.
By hosting a large-scale event in such a biodiversity-rich region, we understand the responsibility to act consciously. Thus, Paraty Brazil By UTMB is dedicated to developing and supporting initiatives that contribute to environmental preservation, ensuring that our impact is always positive and that our race continues to be an example of integration between sport and nature.

Trail Management in Serra da Bocaina National Park
As part of our commitment to environmental preservation, we carried out an important trail management action on the 7 Degraus Trail, located within Serra da Bocaina National Park. This work focused on preventing and controlling erosion along the trail, ensuring soil conservation and protection of the local vegetation.
The intervention was carefully planned to minimize impact on the ecosystem, allowing both runners and future visitors to enjoy the natural beauty of this region without compromising its integrity. This effort reflects our commitment to maintaining the trails in safe and sustainable conditions.
Reforestation Mud Balls
Developed by Daniela Oliveira with the help of local Caiçara children, these clay balls, filled with jussara seeds, were distributed to athletes to disperse along the trails, aiding in the reforestation of Serra da Bocaina. This innovative project aims to regenerate degraded areas and promote local biodiversity.
Purification Mud Balls
Made with charcoal, salt, flour, and microorganisms (EM1), these mud balls were released into local rivers to improve water quality. The initiative involved Caiçara children from Barra Grande and Campinho School, emphasizing the importance of water preservation.
Plastic Reduction
With a commitment to reducing plastic in nature, the event organization implemented the use of reusable cups and biodegradable materials, significantly decreasing disposable plastic use and waste generation. This initiative reflects our dedication to minimizing environmental impact and promoting more sustainable practices.
Returnable Cups
Available for use at the event’s expo and arena, the returnable cups promote environmental awareness and significantly reduce plastic waste generation. Additionally, they provide an extra source of income for local vendors, who benefit directly from this sustainable practice.
Paraty Brazil by UTMB has gained market recognition for its environmental practices, attracting numerous brands that value ecological responsibility and establishing itself as a sustainability leader in the sports world. The blend of athletic challenges with innovative environmental initiatives reinforces the event's commitment to promoting high-level sports while protecting and preserving local nature and culture.
